Before I say a word, I want you all to know that working with Tom Ford beauty has been fun and insightful. From breakfast meetings to photo shoot, there has not been a single dull moment.
Tom Ford as you may all know is one of the most recognisable names in the fashion and beauty business. The company prides itself in the quality of its products combined with beautiful craftsmanship resulting in a luxury brand. It is a wonder how Tom Ford has become such a great household name in a relatively short period since its inception in 2005. I mean the company is barely 20 years old but yet commands a good chunk of the luxury market.
I can only put this success down to the great work ethos and vision of the man at the helm, Mr Tom Ford. Of course Mr Tom Ford did not just pop out of the woodwork to create this brand but have
put in enough years at Gucci as creative director and then vice chairman of the management of board of Gucci group amongst other positions.
Anyway enough with the history lesson from me already. You probably know all the above so thank you for humouring me.
It was an absolute pleasure to have been invited to a private blend session a few weeks ago at Tom Ford’s Harrods salon de parfum. Its like wine tasting on another level with all the trimmings. And now replace the wine with perfume to create an unforgeable experience.
There were so many fascinating things to learn about the private blend collection. Imagine Tom Ford creating a perfume for ladies but had men all over it as soon as it was launched. Black orchid upon it launch went unisex which firmly laid the foundation for the preceding scents to all be unisex. The private blend collection has about 30 unique scents to include the Harrods exclusive ones. From fresh to deep oud scents there is something for everyone.
One of the things I like about the private blend collection is that all of the scents are personal to MR Tom Ford himself. As someone who love travelling, he named most of the collection after places he had visited with Neroli Portifina being his favourite.
I love everything about private blend so much that I could have easily taken the whole collection home with me. Each scent provides a distinctive aroma suited for different occasions and moods. It is hard to choose a favourite from a collection that caters for all tastes and all occasions. Here are my top three from the collection.
Oud Wood
Rare, exotic and distinct are three words perfectly suited to Oud Wood which sits at the top of my favourite three list. The composition is truly beautiful with rose wood, cardamom, oud wood, sandalwood and vetiver all forming a deep and lasting scent. Tonka bean and amber add warmth and sensuality. I personally think Oud Wood is more suited to the male kind.
Tuscan Leather
“Inspired by Tom Ford’s love of fine leather, this ultra-sexy interpretation captures the primal, animalistic scent of leather and it’s smooth voluptuous qualities” – Tom ford – Need I say anymore? The fact that Oud Wood took the top spot on my list does not mean Tuscan leather is any less of a cologne. I mean the coming together of jasmine and suede is nothing short of amazing. Its leathery smell reminds me why I love leather so much.
White suede
Put together leather, velvety rose and warm amber and you get a brilliance scent such as white suede. This musk scent has a great charm about it that is almost impossible to resist. I am still wondering why it is not in my top two.
